''The History of Cities and Villages of the Ukrainian SSR'' ((ウクライナ語:Історія міст і сіл Української РСР)) is a Ukrainian encyclopedia, published in 26 volumes. It provides knowledge about the history of settlements in Ukraine and was first published in 1962. The chief editor was the noted scholar and historian Petro Tronko. This is the first thorough historical work, each volume of which covered the history of settlements of certain regions of Ukraine, and at that time they numbered almost 40 thousand. The encyclopedia played an important role in collecting materials for writing essays about the villages and belongs in the regional state archives, museums and regional research institutions. The encyclopedia was compiled work by the State Historical Library of Ukraine together with the Institute of History of Science of Ukraine.
